What are the History tools?

The history tools allow you to access older states of your edit. The history panel keeps a log of all the changes you’ve made to your image, while the history brush can revert any changes you’ve made to a single layer.

Both tools are helpful if you’re editing destructively- meaning you’re baking your edits into minimal layers.

Later on in this course we will cover Smart Objects and Workflow, which will help you edit more non-destructively with more layers.

Practical Uses of the History tools

  • Fixing mistakes in your image

  • Documenting all the changes you’ve made
