666 - Porteau Cove
Ah, the adventure you’ve all been waiting for. 666.
Well… I don’t have an epic story for this guy. But maybe that’s the nature of the beast.
This whole session was a last minute decision to shoot sunset at Porteau Cove with my sis. The cove is a small pull-off along Highway 99, which leads you from Vancouver up to Squamish.
Since the whole road is essentially sandwiched between a mountain and the sea, it could be argued that it’s one of the most beautiful highways in the world.
But it was tinted with a shade of blue- my sister, who we flew out to Canada to visit, was actively going through a breakup. Which meant that even though we were surrounded by environmental wonders of the tenth degree, a tinge of darkness was in the air.
For this reason, I didn’t spend much time shooting this peculiar cove. This whole side quest was pretty much just an excuse to help talk her through her current situation in private.
I’m not gonna divulge the details on this public forum, but if you’ve ever had to go through a breakup after moving to a different country, I’m sure you can fill in the gaps. Shit gets messy.
I couldn’t resist taking this photo, however, which oddly felt like it represented the situation:
“Branching Out”
Taken with Sony a7rIII + Sigma 100-400mm f/5-6.3
[ISO 500 ~ 180.8mm ~ f/5.6 ~ 1/2500s]
Blue, with a hint of orange in the clouds. A mountain of indigo that must be conquered in order to start a new beginning.
I guess that’s all I gotta say.
