627 - Giau Pass

Today I took a photo of a dead leaf.

And it was the most beautiful dead leaf I’ve ever seen:

It’s such that the Italian Dolomites have that sort of power.

A blind plant, oblivious to the reality surrounding it. Yet 500 yards away is one of the most spectacular scenes on Earth. Something humans (a species that plants don’t even know exist) travel from far, far away to see. Yet the plant will never know of this.

Instead it sits withering in demise, unsure about the forthcoming winter.

I often wonder if us humans exist in a similar set of rules. Living our daily lives with a breathtaking scene just inches from our face- yet completely out of our grasp.

I suppose if that were true, it’d be a good thing. Knowing that something pleasant is always so close, even in the darkest of times.

I’m not trying to be deep. I’m sincerely just hungover and my mind is drifting.

You know what? I’m going to watch an episode of Mad Men then go to bed. But here’s one more picture for the road:

I took that 20 minutes or so before the first picture. Giau Pass, Italy.

Goodnight.
