What are Focal Blends?

Focal blends are when you take two photos of the same scene, but at different focal lengths. For example if you take one photo at 14mm, and another of the background at 85mm, then combine them into one shot.

This makes images feel more real to the naked eye, because it removes the disortion effect of wide-angle lenses.

Practical Uses of Focal Blends

  • Making mountains larger in wide-angle foreground shots

  • Centering or making clouds larger in a scene

  • Capturing more detail in various parts of an image
