647 - The Rotunda
Today we visited a building modeled after the Pantheon in Rome.
It’s also where Alara went to college, so there’s that. This whole adventure was a mini side quest from getting a hot cup of joe.
See, there’s this place called Bodo’s at UVA (The University of Virginia) that has legendary bagels and sort-of-legendary coffee. The point is, the bagels are worth the detour, so we found ourselves running around UVA campus in the early morning hours.
Early and dreary enough that I managed to snag a couple shots of The Rotunda, which is a famous building designed by Thomas Jefferson himself. That’s the cool thing about the east coast. Every architectural wonder is historically significant in some way.
It was also that happy medium in the morning where it’d just rained but wasn’t raining again yet, which led me to snag these super moody shots:
That’s the front and the back of dat thang. It’s sort of got a cartoony vibe in these photographs, which I liked for some reason. I think it’s the fact that the first shot’s wide angle view makes the columns look like they’re coming up at different angles. Almost like something out of Disneyland.
Oh, and here’s Thomas Jeffy himself, complete with a bird on the head:
It might be the caffeine that got me feeling all looney in these photos. But I like it. Should try photography on caffeine more often.=
Anyway, onward and outwards. We’re on our way to Roanoke for the long weekend. Let’s see what awaits us…
