634 - Munich Residence

As our European tour comes to close, so does my era of living in a Prius.

After a several week photography bender in Europe, our trip has finally reached an end. We decided to set our final adventure at the Munich Residence in Germany, which is a massive palace featuring 130+ rooms spread across 40,000 square meters of space.

It’s a stark pivot from the past couple weeks of landscape photography, but it was our only chance for a photoshoot before our flight out of Munich early the next morning.

It also stands as an ironic send-off for my final adventure before moving into an apartment, after 7 years of living in a Prius. The moment we get back to the US, Alara and I begin the process of moving in together in DC

Why am I finally moving out of the Prius, might you ask?

Well, it’s been a solid run. Seven years has a nice ring to it, and it’s about time I work towards a future that isn’t completely nomadic. The crazy thing was this whole living in a car thing was only supposed to last a year or two as a lifestyle experiment, but it blew up into so much more.

I had no idea how much I’d love living on the road, and how profoundly it’d change me as a person. Just take a look at my Adventure Map to see everywhere I’ve been in this timeframe. It’s absolutely insane. And what’s even more insane was that it was entirely funded through Uber/Doordash. Proving that binge traveling isn’t reserved for those in high income brackets

Anyone can do it

But at the end of the day, living in a car is only fun when you’re actually traveling, and for the past two years I’ve pretty much been stationary in DC, burnt out from life on the road. (Minus a few international trips here and there.

It’s been a long time coming, and I’m excited to build out a home base with Alara. The last time I lived in an apartment was over seven years ago, so it’s going to be a wild transition

Obviously I’m going to stick with adventure photography, and my plan is to keep the Prius alive for weekends and extended trips. My long term play is to build out Explorer University, the educational portion of Intricate Explorer. I want to focus my efforts on teaching others and eventually, hosting in-person photography workshops.

You can expect these blog posts to continue in continuity for infinity. At least once a week

But that’s enough sentimental shit. Let’s cut to the real reason you’re here- to see high quality photos of the largest palace in Germany

Here’s photo number one:

That’s the reason I wanted to come here. This hallway alone. Here’s another angle:

It’s one of those places you see on Google Maps and you know right away you could get a sick photo of it. But besides this, most of the other rooms in this place were standard museum fare.

Endless roped off areas, old furniture, utensils, ect. Not exactly my cup of tea. But the ballroom gave me once more magnificent scene to capture:

I love when the floor designs can fit neatly into the composition.

And… that’s all folks. The end of an era, in several regards. I’ll see ya on the other side.
