656 - High Rock
Today I went to an overlook absolutely torn apart by graffiti.
And once you see these pics, you’re probably gonna be pissed. Most people in their rightful minds would be.
But I want you to take a step back for a second. Ignore EVERYTHING about the environment you’ve ever been taught. “Defacing rocks isn’t good.” “Trashing a place is trashy.” “Destroying the planet isn’t ideal.”
Sure, sure, sure.
Now look at these colors:
Now tell me that isn’t a sick view. Tell me. I’d go as far to say this view would be suck without the spray paint. Overlooks like this are a dime a dozen in Maryland. But overlooks dripping to the brim in paint? Nearly 0%.
The whole place is like this. Every square inch. The only other location that comes close to this style is Rainbow Falls in Colorado Springs.
These nature x graffiti crossover events are rare, and a nice treat whenever I stumble upon one:
I showed up around 5:45am to snag these shots, because it's clearly a teenage hangout spot at night. And to my not-surprise, the place was completely empty- minus two people who showed up a little later and were clearly still partying from the night before.
I also snagged this shot, which leads you down into a lower quadrant of the rock that’s also sprayed to the core:
And finally, I ended it with this shot here, which felt like a good note to close on:
Now obviously this can’t be done everywhere. Even small traces of graffiti in nature have the potential to kill the vibe. But if you’re gonna burn a bridge, burn it to the ground. Then double down on it- because I think something beautiful will emerge on the other side.
