639 - Neabsco Boardwalk
Today we navigated a winter-torn swamp.
The name of the game is Neabsco Boardwalk, which sounds suspiciously like the brand that makes Nilla Wafers.
It was the dead of the Virginia winter, and all things considered, it went well. The boardwalk is essentially a half-mile walkway over marshlands, which is unique in that it allows you to get up-close and personal with an ecosystem that would otherwise be impossible to navigate.
But despite the fact that nothing appeared to be alive, a couple of the locals were still out and about:

Although I love that shot, after the grandness of our recent Dolomites adventure, I’ll admit everything in the past couple of shoots has felt lackluster. Today felt like a lesson in respecting the low-key vibes.
We all know that the true nature of photography is taking the best photos given the current environment- not the best environments. But when you’re trying to make a career out of social media, that truth is harder to swallow.
Let’s double down:
I love that image. It gives me the psychedelic creeps. But it’s gonna bomb like all of hell on social media.
After a couple more miles of exploring, we decided to head back when the sun started dipping. Nothing more grim than dead swamp after dark.
On the way out, I ended up snagging this next shot. It’s essentially as BIG of a scene as you can get in this place, and it gives you an idea of the boardwalk we were walking on:
There’s my Dolomite inspiration coming through. A constant battle in my head for subtle art vs subtle greatness. Who will conquer in the end?
